"...the buildings where the photos in my series 'The Alchemist's Cave' were made are large, old brick kilns used to fire clay pipe into hardened glazed products. There are hundreds of these abandoned temple-like structures in southeastern Ohio. The forms and textures are strikingly primative, and the dark interiors are pierced at intervals by by brilliant beams of light. This evoked for me a place where an ancient alchemist might attempt to transmute mercury and lead into gold, or where a photographer might transmute light, texture and form with the alchemy of imagination..."
